An ECG, also known as an Electrocardiograph or EKG, measures electrical activity in the heart over a period of time by use of electrodes that are placed over the body.  The results are either read visually by a trained medical professional or by the actual ECG, known as an interpretive ECG.  Traditional "box-style" ecgs are still popular although "digital" systems are becoming the mainstay as offices move in the EHR filled future.  Companies like Welch Allyn, Midmark and Mortara have become the industry leaders in recent years.
